About Us
CCCA believes that our focus on conservation provides a critical balance to Cavendish during this time of increased development pressure. Situated only a few hours from large population densities, Vermont is changing rapidly as farm and forest lands throughout the state are being converted to non-agricultural uses at an unprecedented rate.
We are particularly concerned about flat, open lands most valuable for agriculture as they are also most suitable for housing, industry and retail uses. We are just as concerned with fragmentation of forests, which negatively impacts wildlife habitats, water quality, ecosystem processes, the timber industry, viewsheds and access to land for recreation.
National Geographic Traveler recently rated Vermont as one of the top unspoiled destinations in the world, along with Norwegian fjords and the Swiss Alps. Shortly after that release, the National Trust for Historic Preservation declared Vermont one of America’s most endangered places. Vermont loses a square mile of critical habitat and 6,500 acres to development every year.
Throughout Vermont, organizations like CCCA are coming together to educate themselves and their communities about the value of our heritage, alternative enterprises for land-owners and ways to support the working landscape. We are excited about the important work before us and we ask for your continuing interest and support.
